Historical Monuments
The town of Varnsdorf lies under the Lusatian Mountains in the Mandava river valley. It is surrounded by Germany fro three cardinal points. Varnsdorf was first mentioned in the 13th century. Its location, beautiful countryside and interesting sightseeing in the town as well as in the surroundings attract both Czech and foreign tourists.

- St. Paul’s and Peter’s Church (E. Beneš Square)

- St. Paul’s and Peter’s Cathedral is the oldest church in Varnsdorf. It was built in the same place as original small church fro the 13th century. The foundation stone of the new church was laid in the year 1766. The building was obstructed by quarrels in the council, and so it was finished in the years 1774 – 1776, and its late baroque decoration in 1777. The interior furniture features rococo and classicism. In 1904 the church was equipped with a new organ made by Mr. Eule, organ maker from Bautzen. In 1908 a new bell was consecrated and hung in the tower as a substitution for the old one damaged in a thunder storm in the summer in 1907. There is a memorial tablet commemorating the world wide first performance of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in the year 1830.

- The stone of foundation was consecrated on 23rd May 1904, and they started building it the very next day. The work in the building site went on very fast - in the year 1904 the building reached the height of the windows and a year later it was even given a makeshift roof. They continued building the church (with several interruptions) until the year 1912. The church was consecrated on 3rd September 1912.

- Old Catholic Church (Tyrš St.)

- Old Catholic Church in Tyrš street was built in the year 1875. The denomination called Old Catholic Church was founded in Varnsdor as a protest against claim infallibility of the Pope. The big bell is a gift from Raimund Artel. The alabaster statue and the relief of the Three Magi are the work of the local artist Vincenc Piltz.

- The stone of foundation was laid in May 1904 and the church was consecrated in December 1905. The church is built of glazed red bricks. At present the church is abandoned and out of service.

The Decorative Art of the beginning of the 20th century is the basic feature of numerous building in Varnsdorf e.g. the Legions Street, or the Special School building that was originally built as a bank. Monumental buildings of the Post Office and the Primary and Junior High School are built in New-Renaissance Art.The house number 512 in National Street features Classicism and Empire style. . All over the town you can see various pretentious villas built in a whole variety of retro styles – e.g. in Seiffert or Tyrš Street.
The folk architecture represented by the houses built of wood and stone (houses number 488 in National Street, 112 in Kamenická Street, or 452 Pod strání Street). Some of them still have their remarkable original decorative stone portals. The sandstone life-size statue of St. Anthony on a rich decorated plinth will certainly impress visitors of the town (in front of the house number 488 in National Street).
