Micro-Region Tolštejn
The name Tolštejn belongs to the ruins of a medieval castle that used to be a very important fortress in the northern borderland of Bohemian Kingdom.
- ESTABLISHING

Micro-Region Tolštejn was established on 8th August 1999. The main goal of this voluntary union of towns and villages is gathering powers and finance to increase the number of tourists coming to see this lovely piece of land.

AREA AND POPULATION

- The union spreads on the area of 13,987 hectares (a hectare = 2,47 acres). The population is 24,305.

Location
- The Micro-Region lies in the most northern borderland of Bohemia neighbouring the FRG, or more exactly the Free State of Saxony.
- There are parts of three protected areas in the region – the National Park Czech Switzerland, the Protected Landscape Labe Sandstone Rocks, and the Protected Landscape Lužické hory (the Lusatian Mountains.
- The European watershed dividing rivers flowing to the Baltic and North Sea runs through this region.
- According to the statistics of the Czech Hydro-Meteorological Centre of the Czech Republic this area belongs to the cleanest ones in the country.
